The Department of Engineering Thermophysics and Automation is a teaching and scientific research unit based on the Department of Energy System Automation and the Institute of Thermal Equipment Simulation and Optimization. After years of development, it has gradually developed into a research and teaching academic unit based on energy discipline, which is widely interdisciplinary with automation technology, information and big data, to carry out the measurement, modeling, simulation, control, analysis and optimization of energy and power systems. It is mainly responsible for the cultivation of undergraduate students in energy testing and information technology, and the teaching of core courses such as "energy and power testing technology", and is also responsible for the construction of secondary discipline of Engineering Thermophysics and assisting in the construction of independent secondary discipline of Energy System Engineering.

At present, there are 2 professors, 7 associate professors and 1 lecturer, including 1 PI of Hunan Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, 1 young scholar of Hunan "Furong Scholar Award Program", 1 young talent of Hunan Province and 1 Shenghua Distinguished Professor. Most of faculty members have doctoral degrees and overseas study experience. The Department of Engineering Thermophysics and Automation has won a number of provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, and has presided over more than 60 projects such as National Natural Science Foundation of China and 863 program, with a total funding of more than 10 million yuan. More than 200 academic papers and 30 patents have been obtained, and more than 10 provincial excellent graduate dissertations have been cultivated.
